An "apostille" is a certificate issued by the Secretary of State for documents to be recognized abroad. It is permanently fastened to the original document(s). The process authenticates either the credential's of the Notary Public who notarized the document or the original signature of the State or County official who signed & certified the document (such as a birth certificate).
